Back in the Cold
So I was lazy and didn't update things while i was in Cayman. All in all it was a fantastic trip. Only managed to get out kiting once, the winds really didn't want to cooperate with me, go figure. When I did get out it was a blast. First time kiting in just shorts! The launch wasn't the best, but it worked.
Due to the lack of winds I decided on getting my open water SCUBA certification. With a little hook-up from one of Ebony's coworkers I got a private lesson at The Lobster Pot Dive Center for a great price. It was a whirlwind event that lasted only a day and a half! I did four open water dives with a max depth of 50 feet.
I dove at Cheeseburger Reef, La Mesa Reef and the Loan Star Ridges. All spots were amazing. Like swimming in your friends salt water fish tank. It was unreal. Clear blue water, colorful fish and the coolest part... a giant sea turtle! The water temps were great, only needed a shorty at 50 feet. It was something like 81 F at that depth... that'll never happen here!
On top of that I did some snorkeling ( which doesn't cut it anymore ), drove around the island ( which is very small ), walked seven mile beach, hung out, jet-skied, hung out at Rum Point on a boat for a day, and o yeah.... fed the sting rays!!!
Yeah, stingrays. Um, that was strange. All I could do was think about Steve Irwin while I stood there with about 20 rays swimming all around. Some of the locals gave me squid to feed them. It was pretty odd, like a vacuum cleaner sucking it out of your hand. Yikes. Also managed to get Ebony in with them too for the first time in four months! Ha.
Anyway, that's the short of it all. Great place for small crows and just chillin. But if you want to be on the go all the time ( like me ), unless you dive or kite there isn't much else to do.
