Brownies Session
Got the the beach around 4:30 to find it pretty much empty, except for some dude hanging out in his bright orange banana-hammock. Wind felt ok, but not honking. Opted for my 14.
Tide was really low, so i was able to walk out about 3 line lengths and still not knee deep. Drift launched while avoiding the millions of jellies. The wind felt fine and I was pretty powered up, but for some reason it was so difficult to stay upwind. Partially the tide coming in I'm sure, but I really don't think i have that small bar and big kite trimmed right. My front lines are not long enough I think. Anyway, after heading downwind a bit I finally found the sweet spot between trim and bar and was defiantly powered. As i made my way back up wind I could see Jeff setting up.
Jeff got out for a few tacks and I followed with my helmet cam. Got some ok shots, but there is a lot of editing to do. It wasn't long though before I saw Jeff trying to chase his kite down and falling far far behind. I cautiously went after it, and when I saw a lull in it's movement I swooped in for the grab and waited. By this point we were pretty far downwind and I didn't think i was going to make it back upwind riding. But the wind had picked up and it only took a few super powered up tacks to get back to the beach. Just as I did the wind died off and I called it quits.
After fixing his kite Jeff tried to get back out, but he was working like hell and just barley keeping ground. I had had about 2 hours by this point and decided to pack up and head for home.
All in all a pretty good day on a big kite, but I really need to take the time to dial in the bar setup on that kite.
